About CSV Polish
CSV Polish cleans the CSV files other people send you. It was built for a small, dull, constant task: an export arrives, something in it is wrong — the encoding, the delimiter, the dates, the duplicates — and it has to be right before it can go into a CRM, a mailing tool, a database or a report. The alternatives are a spreadsheet full of manual find-and-replace, a script you rewrite every time, or an upload form on somebody else's server.
The third option is the one this site exists to replace. Customer lists, payroll rows and order histories are not files to hand to a stranger for a five-minute cleanup, so CSV Polish does the work in your browser instead. The page is a set of static files; your data is read with the File API, changed in memory and written back as a download. There are no accounts, no analytics, no cookies beyond your language and theme preference, and no network requests while you work — after the page has loaded you can go offline and everything still works.
The tool is deliberately narrow. It does not merge files, run formulas, chart anything or match records fuzzily — those need either a spreadsheet or a proper data tool. It does one pass of detection and repair on a single table, and it tells you exactly what it changed.
It is built and maintained by Interhive OÜ, a small studio in Tallinn that makes tiny, dependable web tools.
What it does, in order
- Read
- CSV, TSV and plain-text exports by drag & drop, file picker or paste. Automatic delimiter detection (comma, semicolon, tab, pipe, plus Excel's sep= line) and encoding detection (UTF-8, UTF-8 with BOM, UTF-16, Windows-1251, Windows-1252), both overridable at any time.
- Inspect
- A virtualised grid with a sticky header, a detected type on every column (text, number, date, boolean, empty), a wavy underline on cells that still contain stray or invisible characters, and a raw view of the original text with line numbers.
- Fix
- Fourteen automatic checks, each with a count, a preview and a one-click fix. Column tools for rename, trim, case, find & replace with regular expressions, split, merge, move, delete and type conversion. Fifty steps of undo and a change log you can copy.
- Export
- Delimiter, quote-all, LF or CRLF line endings, UTF-8 or UTF-8 with BOM — then Download CSV, or Copy TSV for pasting straight into Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers or LibreOffice.
